Tent

The tent was in a bit of a clearing, once you got away from the tangles of the foliage along the Juniper Path. You found the nicest looking young man sitting at the base of a tree on the other side of the tent.

He chuckled as he invited me to "pull up the ground and have a seat." You had hardly settled into a fairly comfortable sitting position when he began. "You have the look of a game-based learning adventurer," and you acknowledge that you are indeed.

"You probably wonder what I am doing out here in a little tent off the path, staring across the meadow at the wide blue sky." He speaks amiably enough, although he is indeed looking at the "wide blue sky" instead of his visitor. "You see," he continues, "I want to be part of something bigger than myself - but then you already know that... You are a reader of McGonigal's Reality Is Broken, aren't you?" Without giving you a chance to reply, he continues, "Well, no matter, it's pages 95-104, Kindle locations 1608-1763, that I am talking about. If you write that up for your Adventurer's Log, use the title 'Something Bigger' and I think you could get 10 XP for a job well done."

"Would you like some berries? Nature's snack," said a feminine voice just behind you. She gave you startled moment, as you did not hear her coming. Was she the woman you saw at the log structure?

"Thank you, Dear," said the young man with whom you were talking. "It looks like you had a successful hunt." You noted to yourself that obviously there was a relationship between these two.

"We were just talking about gamers desire to be part of something bigger. I think our Adventurer is part of one of the groups of teachers who come through here periodically to learn how to use game design to help their students learn more willingly and effectively." You nod in agreement.

"Well, then," she began as she set her basket down between us. "Please help your students see the epic environment of life. When I was a student, all I saw was the classroom. I had a hard time looking beyond it. Partly, its the story..." her voice trailed off as she became lost in her thoughts of what to say next. Her face brightened, "You do read McGonigal's Reality is Broken, right?"

Continuing after my brief nod, "Then pay close attention to pages 104-115, Kindle location 1763-1967. Write it up for your Adventurer's Log as 'Epic Environments' and I am sure you can get the whole 10 XP possible." Both of my hosts nodded vigorously.

Sensing the conversation was essentially concluded until some more McGonigal was read, you nod as you get back to your feet and back on the Juniper Path.
